The working principle of abrasive nozzle and how to prevent partial wear

Water jet sand tube, also known as the abrasive nozzle, is refers to the high pressure abrasive water jet machine tool, the jet exit at used as abrasive and water mixing nozzle. Because of the harsh environment of its internal jet, abrasive sand accelerated inside the tube the wear is very large, so it is needed to use very wear-resistant materials to manufacture.

Sand tube is the key of forming abrasive water jets. For a long time the high-pressure abrasive jet sand tube has been perplexing the water jet field in China, so far the cutting sand tube and before mixed abrasive water jet nozzle life has not yet reached a satisfactory level. Sand tube structure is very simple, basically comprises two stages, namely a tapered entrance and cylindrical exit, due to its size slightly different for different purposes. Sand tube due to the erosion of high speed abrasive particles, the selection of material is very important. Generally speaking, sand tube material must have a high hardness, high wear resistance, both are indispensable. It is generally made of composite tungsten carbide material. Generally, cemented carbide, WC as the main wear resistance in particulate form, but Co only as a adhesive. But the presence of such soft metal adhesive apparently has a great influence on the wear resistance, and therefore generally the content of Co should be limited to 6%. Shape, size, type, process conditions of carbides have a great impact on the wear resistance of the material.

High-speed abrasive particles on the sand tube wear, essentially belongs to the category of abrasive wear. Abrasive wear including sliding abrasive wear, impact crushing and attrition high stress abrasive wear, erosion wear and so on. Sand tube wear decisive sliding abrasive wear, the main ways to wear are micro-cutting, micro-deformation or fatigue. It is not only related to the sand tube material, shape, but also the abrasive granularity, shape, hardness, sliding speed may affect them, so sand tube wear process is very complex. Therefore, a reasonable choice jet pressure, abrasive material and size can effectively improve the sand tube life; in the design and assembly process, should ensure that the waterjet nozzle and sand tube of neutral, so that the jet is in the best position to prevent partial wear. Sand tube inner diameter is generally 0.76 ~ 1.2mm, an outer diameter generally 6.35mm, 7mm and 7.14mm. The sand tube service life depends on the material of the product itself, but also has a close relationship with the pressure waterjet equipment, whether or not the use of abrasives, abrasive materials and hardness. Generally 80 ~ 150 hours or so.
